16 years ago, while working for one of the largest UK high street Banks. I saw a glaring gap in the market for a specialist foreign exchange and payments provider. Daily, I was listening to the Banks business and personal customers complaining about a multitude of issues. Terrible exchange rates, extremely slow delivery of funds, delays during the transfer, hidden fees and very poor customer service.
The great thing about working for the bank was that I could see exactly how much they profit on international transfers. Sometimes it would equate to over 6% of the amount being transferred and I thought this was outrageous to just move money from one place to another.

And so, on July 5th 2004, Excel Currencies was born.

We encourage our customers to read our market reports, as knowing what could happen before it happens, is key to obtaining the best rates. My tip comes from Ireland during my time in the scouts, ‘Bi Ullamh’ (Be Prepared) to buy at the right time and not at the last minute.
As a business we have never charged customers a transfer fee. Combine this with our ability to make funds available on the very same day that you secure your rate and we give you a process that is quicker and cheaper than ever before. There will be times when a customer will want to send multiple payments, and this is when a charge may be applied. My tip is centred around Euro payments and the fact that although regular payments take 24-48hrs, the majority of these clear within 24hrs.
Customers have this misconception that because we facilitate Bank transfers, that our client support would reflect that of a Banks. Almost all customers that use our support team, are then surprised to find that we will answer your call within 3 rings, we will assist in every step of the account opening process and if you already have an account, that no raised query will go unanswered. My tip is to encourage our customers to use our support team no matter how small the query may be. We are here to make your experience with us pleasant and stress free.
I constantly get great feedback from personal and business customers about our automatic rate alerts. They say it’s a headache having to constantly keep an eye on where the rate has moved and the biggest disappointment comes from customers who missed out when the rate was high. My tip is you should either place an order to buy at the rate you want or at the very least setup a rate alert so you can be notified when your desired rate has been reached.
